Whew. I can't believe it's been.... uhh.. 11 days (?) since Audrey made her debut. I'm beat.
She is sleeping really well though... eating about every 3 hours at night and every 2-3 during the day. She was 8 lbs at her 1 week appointment and is just a beauty in every way.
Noah is doing really well with her... he does get jealous but in general it's mostly... "I LOVE her mommy!!" - so sweet.
I miss Noah a little bit...having time with him one on one..he is definitely a little more distant but I'm trying to spend as much time with him as possible and Bryan is giving him a lot of attention as well.
Annie (midwife's apprentice who caught Audrey) came by with Katina to Audrey's one week appointment and we won't be seeing her again because she's off to complete a 2 month internship at a high volume birth center in Texas. It was kinda sad..she was such a sweetheart and supported us so well during Audrey's birth. She's going to be a great midwife!
I'm NOT ready for Bryan to go back to work... wondering how I'm going to occupy Noah while nursing/holding/changing Audrey...
Any moms of 2 or more care to share their survival strategies?

Independent Sleep
When you bring your baby into your bed, everyone tells you, "you're never gonna get them out of there", "that's the worst thing you can do", "you'll ruin your marriage", "you'll never get any sleep".
And while its not a bed of roses all the time, I can now say, You Are Wrong.
We decided to cosleep with Noah sort of unintentionally. I knew I wanted him near me during the first few months. The second night I was in the hospital the nurses took him for the night and I didn't sleep at all full of anxiety and agitation. Putting my baby in another room was like dragging nails across a chalkboard, it went against every single motherly instinct I had.
We slept cozily near each other with him in a cosleeper next to our bed for maybe a couple of weeks but soon I figured out how to nurse laying down and bringing him into our bed gave me a LOT more sleep and so we stayed.
Some nights, when the teething was in full swing or he was unusually hungry, I would think, maybe I should let him cry it out. Maybe I should I put him in a crib in another room. but then, when those stages passed, we slept peacefully again. The cuddles every night and morning made it completely worth it.
When we decided to night wean around 15 months (when I was working nights), co-sleeping made the transition much easier. He had a difficult time with me not being there but he had daddy right next to him and knew that he was safe in our bed.
When we found out we were pregnant, I started to dread trying to figure out how to move him to his own room. People automatically started asking the questions about when and where we were going to move him etc etc. I kind of ignored it and trusted that we would figure it out.
Things happened so naturally. He weaned himself at 20 months due to the pregnancy and I didn't have to pressure him towards that step. We moved our bed into another room and gave him his own. He knew it was his bed and although he didn't sleep in it, he knew it was his. I started rocking him to sleep in his room and letting him nap there. If he wanted to nap in our bed, I let him. Then we started putting him down in his bed at night and again, if he wanted to be in our bed, we let him.
Last night he slept all night in his toddler bed without waking up. No cry it out needed. I am so happy that I didn't go against my instincts and force him to sleep alone. If he asks to come into our bed from now on, I will let him knowing that sleep is developmental. Transitions to independence happen most smoothly from a healthy attached and trusting relationship.
I'm sure if he was a different child with a different personality, things would have happened differently. We may have been tandem nursing in a few months. He might have needed to sleep with us longer. He may have slept better in his own bed from the beginning. Regardless, I know that children ask for what they need. Their tears signal their needs. Trying to prevent them and work through them is not spoiling them, it's listening to them.
Taking the time to slow down enough and give our kids our attention and love isn't only what they deserve but what they actually NEED to grow emotionally.

Book Sling Materials: Check!
I've finally gotten ALL my book sling materials having just placed my order for THE most adorable fabric.
It literally took me 2 whole weeks to decide on fabric.
Drumroll please...............................
Book sling #1
Book sling #2
I LOVE it.
I wanted so many different things in this fabric that I had SUCH a hard time finding it.
I wanted it to incorporate the primary colors red and blue and yellow without looking like a 1st grade classroom.
I wanted it to be vintagey, maybe floraly, maybe boyish but also girlish just in case, and fun, and maybe "around the world" ish.
Check, check, check!!!!!!!!!!
Now to work this into the room somehow....
I am thinking maybe a quilt is in order....

Organizationally Challenged
I've been blog searching for organizational tools that will help me as a mom, organize!
We mostly struggle with meal planning. When you don't have dinner on the table, the stress seems to go through the roof.
Not to mention that Noah can't have dairy, I am usually sleeping during dinner, and Bryan is probably the most picky person I know and would rather have everything that I wouldn't consider edible food.
Yikes.
I did find a super meal planning program online called Plan to Eat. It has a free 30-day trial, which I signed up for. After that its $5 a month.
I hate paying for things that I should be capable of doing myself but the fact is, I'm not. I am just not organized enough. (Well...maybe I am I just don't know it yet..)
I also discovered a blog called Organizing Your Way. She has an awesome list of free printables for a home management binder as well as super resources on Once a Month Cooking. The idea is you plan out a variety of freezable meals and then once a month, take an afternoon and cook, freeze and viola! You have meals at your fingertips.
This idea sounds great in theory but actually implementing it sounds a bit scary. Maybe one of my friends will spend an afternoon doing this with me. It would definitely make my life easier.... it would have saved my sanity the first month of Noah's life, that's for sure!
I'm really enjoying her blog purely because she talks about practical ways to develop life skills like time management, planning, budgeting, etc. I know I need help in these areas and I think everything can benefit from some improvement.
Also Simple Mom is a great page to visit for more blog resources on all thing Simple Living.... The above mentioned blog contributes to her network.
I think my goals for the rest of this month should be to implement meal planning as an integral part of how we operate...then maybe we'll get to the cleaning, routines, etc..
This is what I spent my day after work doing yesterday.... in between nap and sleeping..
and lots and lots of cuddling <3 . Noah loves loves loves playing with water right now.
I'm going to have to get a little pool and more summer clothes for him soon...probably tomorrow since it supposed to be 80's all week!

Happier Notes
On a happier note...
I've found a slew of creative blogs that I'm in love with and am officially motivated to start sewing!!
I've also got a list of projects to complete and completed a major trip to Lowe's to get supplies for some chalkboards and book slings I am going to make for Noah's playroom. Also, got some trim for the walls by the stairs and the rest of the paint so finally, this weekend, I am GOING to complete this stinkin project!!
I am so excited to do these projects and I wish I could take credit for them but I can't! haha. I'll blog about each one as I complete them but here is a list of links for your reading pleasuree..
The chalkboards aren't from a site.
I just got some old wooden frames from Goodwill, took out the glass, etc and am going to repaint them bright, fun colors.
I bought plywood at Lowes and had them cut it to size for each frame. Now I need to prime and paint it with chalkboard paint and Viola! Adorable chalkboards for Noah to create little paintings in!! I'll put up a picture tutorial once they've been completed.

THIS site is incredible...her photography in and of itself is amazing. I would like to steal the lanterns/pompom idea and put in into blues/creams for his playroom....so adorable!!
I'd also like to make this pallet reading bed once we get into a bigger place.
And this site has an awesome tutorials list!!!

Mother's Day
“A mother's love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path.”
- Agatha Christie
How true is this quote? This was my second mother's day and each day that passes, I am more bonded to Noah than before. My love for him is so strong that it surprises me. I never understood "the mother instinct" concept before having him and now I understand. There is a physical reaction to your child...your whole body feels pain at the thought of something happening to them.
The second night of his life, we were in the hospital. I was exhausted not having slept much at all about 36 hrs labor and visitors, etc. Noah was fussy and crying. I didn't know what to do. The nurses took him to the nursery so I could rest. I felt horrible and woke up every 1/2 hr physically panicked about where he was. I finally asked them to bring him to me but I had never experienced such physical emotions. My whole being needed to be near him -- this is biology for the nursing mom but at the time, I didn't know anything about that.
I am thankful for him and thankful that I have the privilege of being his mother. He has the most incredible smile and infectious laugh. He is generous and empathetic even at 17 months.
I am blessed.

Nature walk
Noah and I went for a lovely "hike" today in the woods near our home. It's a great little trail and he hasn't really been into the woods much yet so I thought we should attempt it!

The sun was shining, the birds singing, the brook babbling....

Noah munching on his kashi bar. This makes me laugh because he was eating and drinking water like he was the one doing all the work. hehe...

He felt very sleepy after awhile and after I belted out some random songs he wanted me to keep singing.
I sang him our bedtime songs and hymns and each time I would stop, he was look up and go "mama?!" ...it was pretty funny.

We walked and I sang and I felt bad for the animals who heard me. But it made him very happy and sleepy and we had a superbly intimate walk in the woods.

I cherish wearing him in the Ergo because I know its not much longer that he'll be able to be held comfortably like that...

All tuckered out!!

Vaccine Reactions.
Needing a place to write this, so obviously, my blog would be it. I haven't really let this out...its been in my head for a while now and I haven't talked to anyone but Bryan about it. No one else seems to understand.
Noah has had minor vaccine reactions and my doctor has always said it was normal. I'm not sure if it is or not. When he was very little, we started vaccinating normally but he was very fussy and Bryan and I felt he was "twitchy" and jerky afterwards... (which I know now probably was small seizures). So I started an alternative vaccination schedule to spread them out as much as possible.
After each dtap shot, he has screamed for hours on end that evening. After his vaccines around 9 mo, he stopped babbling. But then a couple of weeks later, he seemed to be back to normal, so I chalked it up to just coincidence. Bryan was worried but I kept thinking...no it can't have anything to do with that. Vaccines can't be that dangerous...
This most recent Dtap on March 3rd, he screamed for 3+ hours and was limp in my arms. Like, he wouldn't move. His fingers were blue. I called out of work (it was my first night) because I was so scared that we would have to take him to the hospital. The doctor said that he was probably just fussy and to wait. He just nursed non-stop...wouldn't move at all from me. After those hours, he all of a sudden seemed to get better and perk up. I gave him tylenol and he eventually settled to bed. Things seemed normal.
I can't help but be very scared by this. I've read about parents who ignored the "small" reactions and then continued vaccinations and their child had a very severe reaction.
He has the MMR, polio, Dtap, chickenpox, hep a and hep b's left...maybe a couple more. My vaccination schedule isn't in front of me.
I'm definitely not doing the MMR until past 3+ years and then it will be the separate components.
I'm not sure about the others. He only has one polio left and the new reccomendation is that they don't recieve the last one till age 4 so we;re okay there. Hep A and Hep B don't really concern me right now because he's not having sex or using needles... hah. Chickenpox...I'd like for him to have natural immunity but with most kids being vaxed by now, that might not happen.
This whole issue has been weighing on my heart and mind so heavily lately. I'm listening to my momma instinct and delaying the rest of his vaccines until at least 2.5 yrs.
I really HATE this issue and HATE being forced to choose between potentially actively harming my child and passively possibily allowing them to become sick with a disease.
A friend of mine just mentioned that her boss's son was diagnosed with ADEM (Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a neurological disorder characterized by inflammation of the brain and spinal cord caused by damage to the myelin sheath. ADEM may occur in association with a viral or bacterial infection, as a complication of inoculation or vaccination, or without a preceding cause) right after his 18 month vaccinations.
My prayers go out to them....

Noah's 1st Trip to the Library!
Today something momentous occurred.
Noah discovered the library!
My little monkey mostly ran around shouting "AH!" to hear his voice echo in the silence. Haha....
I told him that everyone in there wanted to do just that and to take advantage of it while he could.
I feel privileged that I could show him the library for the first time ever in his little life. One of my favorite places...I hope it becomes his too.
I love days where we get to relax.
We had an awesome time walking in the rain and amusing librarians and buying cheap organic groceries at the discount store.

joy of spring
The sun shined the whole weekend. It was lovely.
My seeds that I started last week sprouted, which is incredible! Also the morning glories are poking out their heads..

Noah and I chased each other around the yard. He was barefoot running in the grass for the first time in his life.
Bryan and my dad put up a new (rather, old, but given to us) wooden swing set with a slide.
We threw rocks into the pond.
I hung diapers to dry on the clothes line yesterday for the first time.
Spring is especially perfect this year because although it's not Noah's very first spring, it is the first one that he is able to discover for himself. The "plop" of a rock splashing into the pond made him more excited than I have ever seen him. We had to pull him (and the dog) away.... even going to see the "moos' wasn't enough to get him to leave the rocks and water.
It's also awesome because our first family garden is being started this year. My tomatoes, cauliflower, cabbage and onions have sprouted....hoping to plant the sweet corn this week. The garden needs to be tilled and then the raised beds need to be made but it shouldn't take long.
Pictures to come!

Breastfeeding Confession.
Sometimes I wonder if the reason I get so worked up about breastfeeding is because I'm still challenging the views inside myself.
This is definitely true in some respects. It's hard to turn around 23 years of societal influence regarding breastfeeding. I'm still nervous every time I feed Noah in public - which is rare because I try to feed him at home. I'm nervous nursing him anywhere in front of others besides Bryan because nursing a toddler is so rare in the US.
I think I get worked up because I feel like I'm always on the defensive - even when no one says anything to me about it, I worry about what they are thinking.
You would never know that I was nervous about it and if someone asked me something while nursing him, I wouldn't bat an eye. Yet, that lingering self-consciousness is there.
This is probably why I am so passionate about it. I shouldn't have to feel that way about feeding my baby. Why aren't public places more "mommy-friendly"? When we go out, I have a hard time to finding a chair to sit in to nurse him, let alone somewhere somewhat quiet. (Babies get distracted ya know!). And I'm not about to go to the bathroom and sit on a toilet to feed my child, as suggested by many people to nursing moms (esp. in restaurants).
I know that I am the only person who can allow myself to be insecure but the way society views nursing a toddler and the sheer rarity of it (in public) does not help.
Part of me wants to start nursing him whenever and whereever on purpose, just to make the breastfeeding mom more visible.
If we don't start nursing our babies in public, it will always stay a taboo.
A lovely wordless post about this.

Noah's playroom to be
So we've been cleaning out the attic to clean out this closet so that we make this little landing room into a playroom for Noah. We still need to move the old bed out but after that we can work on making it play-friendly.
I am going to put up a big chalkboard on the halfwall and maybe a nonbreakable mirror. Then shelving at the top of the closet for toys, storage etc.
We're also moving up a bookcase to put on its side on the floor as a place for books, toys, etc.
Then onto the wall decals.....maybe some space or animal themed ones. We aren't sure yet.
Here's some pics of Noah checking out the empty closet.

Privileged.
What is it about rainy days that make you sentimental and sullen? Today has been a little surreal in both a happy and sad way. Noah started to really use "yea" and "no" when I ask him questions. It's incredible just how much he understands. It is partly helpful and partly frightening. When he is shaking his head no, he means it! I'm grateful to know what he wants and how to help ---- soo amazing to have this solidified knowledge instead of just guessing all the time. However, it's scary to realize that he is truly growing up at the tender age of 17 months. Yikes.
He said "no" to nursing today. That was a first. And it hurt. At the same time, it is also a bit encouraging to know that he WILL wean himself eventually. I think I'm going to take the "don't offer, don't refuse" approach to weaning. Today he nursed in the morning and then didn't again until 2 which is about as long as he has ever gone voluntarily. This usually happens when we are out and about and busy. To be truthful though, I'm thankful he is not even close to weaning. It seems like most people can't WAIT to be done with nursing...to me, it will make my life so much more difficult and also we'll have to learn a whole new way of comforting, etc.
It's been a mentally exhausting day. Before I was a mom, I could just relax...like...I could sit in a hot tub or get a massage and literally have N-O-T-H-I-N-G on my mind. It's impossible now. I feel constantly on edge...not to the point of discomfort and anxiety but just this little person is always in the back of my mind. And today, I've been even more focused on Noah getting bigger and realizing that I'm responsible for his little life. God has been showering me with this deep awareness of the gravity and privilege of motherhood.
I think one of the reasons He made us able to reproduce was so that we could understand on some level how deeply He loves us. Before Noah, I didn't have the understanding of the world that I have now. Things are more crisp, like you've just stepped outside a sunny morning after a night of rain. Everything is in focus. Somehow motherhood has deepened who I am and my relationship with Christ. I am falling on my knees every single moment because I realize how IN NEED I am actually am. There is nothing more humbling that learning how to slow down, forget yourself and listen to a child.
Thank you ... I am blessed.

Noah Spurts...!
March has almost gone by! Can you believe it?
Vermont has been rainy and cold recently but apparently, we are going to have incredible weather this weekend. I'm really excited. Time to start planning some things to do with Noah on Thursday and Friday before we leave for New Hampshire.
Definitely going to go see Bryan for lunch one of those days. There is a great park right next door and Noah will loveee to go socialize and play on the slides in the sunshine. Can you tell I'm thrilled?
Ohhh summmmerr I can't wait for you to get here but at the same time, I'm afraid you'll go by too fast again.
Today I felt very productive. Productivity really is the BEST feeling. When I arrived home from work at 9:00 am...I played with Noah, did the dishes, started a load of laundry, cleaned the whole bedroom, had snacks with Noah and we finally collasped for a two hour nap. I wish I could say I had a super nap but I was cold the whole time but so out of it I couldn't wake up enough to put on a long sleeve. Either way, I obviously slept and hopefully got some great rest.
Noah and I woke up and made lunch- he's been eating me out of house and home lately! His 15 month growth spurt must be in full swing. He is definitely going through a brain spurt too.....hehe. He is saying many new words and doing new things and just being adorable. His personality is reallllyy showing through. I love it.
This is what he ate yesterday... one egg with ham and a banana w/OJ for breakfast. 3/4 of an avocado with pirates booty veggies puffs for snack. Two cookies from grandpa (big ones...) Then some pasta and black beans along with crackers....another banana......a slice of homemade pizza. What else...I'm sure I'm forgetting something. He's eating a ton! OH! 1/2 cup of oatmeal with raisins and a bunch of raisins through out the day...Whew....and nursing a ton too...

1 yr Molars
Ouch....he's been actively cutting his 1 yr molars for over a week now and they aren't all the way in at all....sleeping horrendously. I feel so bad for him....I hate to medicate him but honestly, without motrin, he'd be miserable 24/7. I'm going to try today and see if he can go without....Bryan's had an awful night getting him to sleep.
I'm currently working....its amazing how unorganized I feel...I really wish there was an absolutely superb app to organize me. I tried YadaHome but there are somethings I feel are missing from it..it offers a grocery list but not general shopping lists, it also doesn't have the best way of sorting tasks...like I would like to have it sort into daily, weekly, etc...and you have to set it up day by day which is annoying.
Anyyway. Just made the most incredibly banana muffins....I can't wait to give them to the kids for breakfast.

"We haven't been sick all winter"
"We haven't been sick at all this winter"......I had been thinking this for about a month now, not daring enough to actually say it aloud. I eventually did say it, about two weeks ago to my son's doctor at his 15 month check up. Sure enough, we were all hit with a stomach flu about a week before Spring officially arrives.

Cabin Fever.
Staying at home has its ups and downs. Some days I feel so antsy to get out the house I think I'm going to explode. Other days there is nothing more peaceful and wonderful than being at home and cleaning.
This morning started off as an explode day. Bryan was leaving late for a 1/2 day at work. I had the brilliant idea that Noah and I would drop him off and spend a couple of hours jaunting around Burlington, happy as larks. We would shop, we would read books at Barnes and Noble and have muffins at Healthy Living. Noah had other ideas. We arrived at the gas station no more than 3 minutes down the road and the screaming ensued. His tired little face turning red and angry and my previously happy demeanor turning...a-g-i-t-a-t-e-d. ARGH Why can't I just go and do whatever I want for 4 hours?! WAH WAH WAH. Pity Party for Sarah. We returned home because we forgot the debit card- I decided we should just stay. I carried Noah upstairs to nurse him to sleep for his nap, feeling a bit resigned to domestication the whole way.
As soon as his little arms hugged my neck and his eyes fluttered into light sleep and his little body relaxed.....my agitation just melted. What was I so mad about? Who cares if I can't go to barnes and noble today? I get to stay home and enjoy this precious baby all day. How privileged am I? He is sleeping now and I get to stand over him and soak it all in. Being a mother is the best job in the world- even if it means you get cabin fever once in a while.
I understand though that many people NEED to get out of the house. I'm one of them to some extent. As long as I get one day where I can out for a couple of hours during the week, I'm totally fine to be home all week. I do miss working but there is no work that I miss enough to actually want to leave Noah to return to. Granted, we do need the money, but at this point I'd rather be in debt and enjoy my son's company. I'll do whatever it takes to make money from home so I can stay with him. Sometimes it feels more difficult to make ends meet but I guess that's why the best things in life require sacrifice.
Aside, Please Lord, bring summer back to us SOON. February and March are my crazy months.

Slept Wrong?
This morning at 2 am I woke up in immense pain. I could not lay on my left side at all. When I woke up at 7, the pain was still there and much worse when I got up from the bed. It continued to radiate up and down my back and in my ribs (despite 4 ibuprofen) until about 11:30 when it started to subside a little. Then at about 4:00...it disappeared. How bizarre? I had to reschedule an interview for a job but was only able to leave a message and still haven't heard back from them.
Not a good sign. On the up side, I did get an email responding to my craigslist ad for offering childcare. However, they only asked if they could call me and didn't give any information which makes me a little skeptical about how legit they are.
Noah is teething again- I'm happy we had a 3 day break but he is back to it. Delayed his nap this morning which pushed his nap back this afternoon and he is still sleeping right now...I don't know if I should wake him up or just let him be.
He did the cutest thing today..he climbed into his basketful of toys and just sat there playing with the toys for about 30 minutes.

Noah's 1st Halloween
We spent halloween with the Campbell's in Derry. The way down was... eventful. Noah cried the WHOLE way. I sat with him in the back with the light on most of the time because otherwise, hysterics ensued. We're not sure why but it must have been the lights from the other cars in the darkness that freaked him out. The trip down was rough however but as soon as we got there, Noah calmed down and went to bed. He was happy to see his grandparents and aunts and uncles but even happier to go to sleep!
The next day we played with grammy and "poobah" and just hung around. Grammy campbell brought Noah his halloween costume "winnie the pooh" and he seemed pretty thrilled about it. Most of the time he just stood hitting the tv...he doesn't watch much tv at home and was fascinated by the ability to touch and lick...and kiss the screen. haha.
We walked around on Chester St. in Chester, NH halloween night and Noah enjoyed seeing the other kiddos dressed up. Perfect halloween night, warm and windy, leaves blowing everywhere! We left just before it started to rain. We got back and carved pumpkins and ate lots of candy!
Curtis and Moriah visited later and were able to say good night to Winnie the Pooh who was pretty hyped up from all the fun and had a little trouble settling to sleep. Overall, a good day and a successful first halloween!
Pictures to come!
